Very good Gig
The band were awesome and fantastically up for the concert.
due to a ticketing surprise we had a choice of standing or seated tickets. we choose the standing option, which in hindsight was a cracker of a decision.
The support guy was well, a support guy. bit of naisely middy voice, which was actually quite annoying after song two. Also did the crazy thing of being a solo accoustic guitarist who brought out a woman on cello to accompany him. Yeah sounded great without the PA. But frankly if your trying to entertain a large sing along crowd as the support act, bringing out a cello isn't really a smart move.
Anyway We managed to watch the entire concert from the top of the bar area. directly behind the main front of House PA and EQ rack. They were using the Soundcraft Vi6 digital console to control front of house. Very fun to watch. If nothing else I like a sound console that changes colour at the touch of a button. The PA looked to be a flown V-Dosc system from a distance, the rig was a SSE Hire, and was runnign through some nice analysis software from various sources on a nice rack mounter screen.
Anyway After a small arguement between my wife and i about if barenaked ladies use In Ear monitors or not, (they do) the gig started.
The thing I love about the Barenaked ladies gigs I have been at (4 so Far) is the buzz. The band walks on stage and everyone seems to stop and sing along. It is a really quiet gig, in terms of thehorrible chatting during the performance but a really loud gig with 1500 plus people all singing along.
It really is quite close to church. (In alot of ways. which as a church worker is quite interesting on all sort of levels.)
The gig passed very fast. The recnet two albums were bought for appropriate present days for My wife and listened to to the extent where the New songs they played were actually more than familiar on hearing them live.
The comedy interludes were funny and the band rocked. Ed's voice seemed slightly flat. but that is only on playback of the bootleg. it sounded fine live.
The band had a lot of energy and seemed to be genuinely happy to be there.
for me the stand out songs were,
Easy from "Barenaked Ladies are me" album
Bank Job from "Barenaked Ladies are Men" album
Million Dollars (with the hilarious ending from a famous musical)
Alcohol (just a great song)
Call and Answer (possibly the best song they have ever done)
so good gig good band.
NB
After the big Hit One Week came from a massive selling album, Stunt, They then released Maroon which sold well as well. The next album Everything to Everyone album got great reviews and is a fantastic pop record. The record company seemed more concerned with the sales figures than the reviews and Barenaked Ladies are now indie artists. By clever things like the Sales of official Bootlegs of every show on USb sticks at the end of the concert. (yeah Burned after the encore in your hands within 10 minutes) they make their money.
So if you see their record buy it. generally they are quite good.

It was a top banana gig. Thanks for the tickets :) Got the usb from the gig the next night so you can sing along with them from that night too when next I see you.
Sounds like you had a great time!
Quality.
Good to escape pressure of studies!
Glad that you didn't suffer the academy beer bar chat syndrome where people just talk over the band...
